UNESCO’s Approach for 2025
Quantum Science and Technology Quantum technologies represent some of the most exciting scientific achievements of the 21st century. They are transforming our understanding of the universe and paving the way for revolutionary breakthroughs in technology. By unveiling the hidden world where the behavior of particles challenges conventional notions of reality, these technologies are reshaping both science and society.
Three Strategic Pillars:
- Quantum Education Establishing 100 educational laboratories in developing countries; drafting international education standards; and reducing the North–South digital divide.
- Ethics and Governance Publishing ethical guidelines on quantum artificial intelligence; and creating an international advisory council to prevent the misuse of emerging technologies.
- Development-Oriented Applications Advancing projects such as water resource management using quantum sensors and building a quantum
monitoring network for climate change, contributing directly to SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
