The establishment meeting of the Basic Science and Technology Club was held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, in the presence of Dr. Peyman Salehi (Deputy for Research of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology), Dr. Hojjatollah Ayoubi (Secretary-General of UNESCO), Dr. Saadollah Nasiri Qeidari (President of Shahid Beheshti University), Mr. Eng. Ebrahim Jamili (Secretary-General of the Basic Science and Technology Club of UNESCO), Mr. Dr. Naser Gholami (CEO of the Tehran University Supporters Foundation), Ms. Dr. Fatemeh Mohammadi Panah (Secretary of the International Committee of the Festival), Mr. Eng. Soroush Mudaveb (Executive Director of the Festival), Mr. Dr. Younes Shakarkhah (Director of the UNESCO Communications Department), Mr. Dr. Abdolmahdi Mustekin (Director of the UNESCO Culture Department), Mr. Dr. Mohammad Rasoul Sadeghi (Deputy for Culture of UNESCO), Mr. Dr. Amir Roshanbakhsh (Deputy for Communications and Partnerships of the UNESCO-Iran National Commission), and Mr. Dr. Reza Fakhrzadeh (Director of the UNESCO Cities Network), in the meeting hall of the UNESCO National Commission.
According to the Public Relations Department of the UNESCO-Iran National Commission, Dr. Ayoubi stated that the purpose of the meeting was to take effective steps in the Knowledge-Based Year.
He continued by pointing out that the Basic Sciences and Technology Club is the 23rd UNESCO Club, which includes important goals such as institutionalizing a culture of development reliance on basic and fundamental sciences in the country and supporting more active participation of women in the field of developing basic sciences from theory to application; and fortunately, after going through the registration process within the country, the clubs are introduced to UNESCO for approval and registration, and after global registration, they can take great steps towards scientific diplomacy.
Following Dr. Ayoubi’s words, Dr. Salehi said: Fortunately, there are scientific, executive and economic figures present at the establishment meeting of the Basic Sciences and Technology Club, which in itself indicates the realization of great goals and new words in the global arena.
Dr. Nasiri Qaidari also pointed out that the UNESCO-Iran National Commission is an effective and efficient institution at the international level, and expressed hope that the establishment of this club could be a push for governments to spend more on basic sciences, which are the source of many global developments.
At the end of the meeting, the Secretary General of the Basic Sciences and Technology Club reminded that they believe in scientific diplomacy and consider doing good deeds as their inherent duty and social responsibility, that the advancement of science and technology and the employment of elite youth in this field are clear examples of good, and they acknowledged: that I will undoubtedly do everything in my power in this regard, and this is my debt to my beloved country, Iran.
It should be noted that Dr. Mahmoud Kamreei, Vice President of Education at the University of Tehran, is the president of this club, Eng. Ebrahim Jamili, Chairman of the Policy Council of the Festival of Young Thinkers and Scientists, is the secretary general of the club, Dr. Peyman Salehi, Deputy Director of Research at the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Dr. Saadollah Nasiri Qeidari, President of Shahid Beheshti University, Dr. Naser Gholami, CEO of the Tehran University Supporters Foundation, Dr. Hamidreza Moshfegh, Dr. Siamak Yasemi, Dr. Mehdi Mohammadi, and Dr. Fatemeh Mohammadi Panah (members of the faculty of the University of Tehran) are among the other members of this club.
