two-year plan and budget
UNESCO formulates a medium-term strategy every six years, setting out the strategic objectives and expected results of the organization’s activities. Medium-term strategy

• Applying scientific knowledge and policy to sustainable development
• Addressing new ethical and social challenges
• Promoting cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and a culture of peace
• Building inclusive knowledge-based societies through information and communication.
UNESCO’s two-year program and budget are based on a six-year medium-term strategy and include measurable expected results, performance evaluation indicators and criteria, and appropriate effectiveness indicators for each of the axes of action in accordance with UNESCO’s five major programs: education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and communication.
